The Credit Compass

About The Credit Compass

The Credit Compass exists to give Indian borrowers clear, unbiased, source-linked loan information — without the advertising noise, affiliate links, or bank sponsorships that distort most financial content online.

We believe that better information leads to better borrowing decisions, and that no borrower should have to pay more than they need to because they were misinformed or misled.

Editorial Policy

Every piece of information on The Credit Compass must meet the following standards:

  • Primary sources only: Interest rates, fees, and regulatory information must be traceable to official bank websites, RBI circulars, NHB notifications, or IBA guidelines. We do not accept data from aggregators, press releases, or promotional materials.
  • Recency: Rate data is reviewed at minimum quarterly. Each loan guide carries a visible "Last reviewed" date. If a data point cannot be confirmed against a current primary source, it is removed until verified.
  • Labelled uncertainty: Where ranges are given (e.g. "8.5%–11%"), the source and date of each bound is documented internally. We do not present single-point figures that obscure variability.
  • No promotional language: Editors may not describe a bank's product as "best" without a specific, measurable criterion (e.g. "lowest published rate as of Jan 2026 per SBI website"). Superlatives require citations.

How Data is Verified

Step 1 — Primary source collection: Rate data is pulled directly from each bank's official loan product pages. Links are saved at time of collection and archived.

Step 2 — Regulatory cross-check: Regulatory claims (e.g. "RBI prohibits prepayment charges on floating-rate loans") are verified against the specific RBI circular number, which is cited on the relevant page.

Step 3 — Quarterly review: All eight comparison banks' rate cards are re-checked every quarter. Pages are updated within 72 hours of any confirmed change.

Step 4 — Full audit: Once per year, every data point across every page is audited end-to-end. The date of the last full audit is published below.
